Healthcare:

As with schools, it is often the case that inner city and rural communities have less access to health care facilities. The poor often have to depend on poorly funded clinics and large hospital emergency rooms for care. Preventative health care is often missing. Remedies include many federal and state programs that support health care for the poor. The largest of thiese is Medicaid. Some cities and rural areas have clinics located in poor neighborhoods and this causes problems of transportation and psychological access. Public health nurses and doctors who serve low income populations are good sources of information on health care needs in your area.
